Merit is a friendly, affectionate, quiet southern gentleman. At four years old and 38 pounds, this sweet, cuddly boy is eager to find his forever home. He is an outgoing and affectionate companion who loves being near his people, happily sitting for hours to be petted.

Merit is playful and social with other dogs, and although gentle, he can be a bit rough and vocal during play, so he needs a confident playmate. He thrives in a household where his family is home often. He is an active boy who also settles well and enjoys chilling with his family. Being a clever escape artist who can climb or slip through fence pickets, he requires a secure, non-picket fenced yard or an unfenced yard with a committed adopter to provide ample exercise. He is nearly house-trained and responds well to redirection on walks.

Merit can be a bit jumpy for food and affection, making him best suited for a home with children over the age of 10. He can also reach countertops, so food should be kept out of reach. While initially thought to not do well with cats, he is successfully living with two cats. He is interested but not aggressive and would do fine with a dog savvy cat.
