Angus’ Story

Angus' story is typical for a southern hound. He was hanging around an Exxon station in rural Virginia for a few days. A Good Samaritan contacted the local animal control, who went to the property to try to take him in. He was easily trapped and so was likely relieved to get out of the cold and get some good food. He was so scared at the shelter, not knowing where he was or what was happening. He was nervous and shy when he first arrived at our southern foster, but it didn't take long for her to learn the way to his heart. Angus LOVES treats! He blossomed while there and came out of his shell.

As our first rescue, everyone at Happy Life was excited for his arrival. As it turns out, so was Angus! He came bounding out of quarantine and was more springing across the parking lot than walking on the leash. Perhaps his name should be Tigger! It didn't take long for him to settle in at his foster home and become part of the pack. He LOVED playing with the other dogs and started to enjoy the affection he got from his foster family. He discovered toys and antlers, blankets and soft beds. He even met a couple of cats who were not his biggest fans, although he tried very hard to make friends!

From His New Family

Ed (formerly Angus) has been settling in so nicely into his new home in Rhode Island. He has been having fun getting to know his two new humans (Brad and Lauren), his four human siblings, and most of all his canine big sister Maggie. After a timid first day when Ed would not venture far outside of our cozy sunroom, he has been having fun exploring his new house - picking up and playing with his new (and some of Maggie’s!) toys, romping around the backyard together, watching the wildlife outside the window, and going on some tandem walks - despite the polar vortex that hit shortly after Ed arrived.

Mealtime and bedtime have been smooth for Ed, and he is doing great in the crate overnight, snuggling up with a blanket and some soft toys. After a day or two, he discovered that the dog bed we purchased for him was indeed for him, and he has also had some nice snoozing time curled up in there. Overall, he is a great addition to our family and fits right in!
